Expoziție Elena & Marcel Scutaru _ „MISSA DA PACEM”

„Conform definiţiei, misa este o compoziție muzicală pentru cor și soliști, adesea cu acompaniament instrumental, scrisă pe textul tradițional al liturghiei. În particular, o compoziţie atribuită lui Josquin des Prés sau Noel Bauldeweyn poartă titlul Missa Da Pacem, traducerea din latină fiind “trimis pentru a aduce pacea”. Expoziţia propusă porneşte de la acest din urmă aspect, adică de la sensul literal al sintagmei, desigur, fără a eluda conotaţiile culturale şi teologice.
Altfel spus, tema aleasă este pacea, tratată din punct de vedere metaforic, ca armonie, deziderat, împăcare, serenitate, iertare, linişte sufletească, încetare a conflictelor şi aşa mai departe. Piesele reunite sub egida proiectului Missa Da Pacem, fără a fi fost create special pentru acesta, au ca numitor comun atributele enumerate mai sus, nimic altceva decât ipostaze ale păcii divine.
Expoziţia reuneşte pictură, sculptură, ceramică şi obiect, configurate într-o instalaţie a cărei finalitate artistică transcende raţiunile pentru care a fost creată fiecare piesă în parte. Avem de-a face cu un demers curatorial de reinterpretare, al cărei model se află în revelaţie, privită ca act prin care clarificăm ceva (ne)cunoscut sau prin care descoperim divinitatea manifestată în lucruri aparent mici şi comune.
Elena şi Marcel Scutaru sunt diferiţi, dar complementari, şi nu expun foarte des împreună. Atunci când totuşi o fac, există motive artistice întemeiate. În Missa Da Pacem, latura conceptuală a unuia se întâlneşte în mod magistral cu apetenţa pentru instalaţie a celuilalt. Mai mult, cei doi tind să îşi inverseze rolurile, la nivel morfologic vorbind, în demersul de unificare a muncii lor.
Iconografia este de sorginte creştină, iar “acţiunile simultane” plasate într-un prezent atemporal al Imperiului Roman, care a cunoscut şi experimentat toate lucrurile relevante, posibile şi imposibile, încorporând în acest proces şi trecutul, aşa cum a fost înţeles în perioadă. Desigur, nu este vorba despre acţiuni propriu-zise, ci despre imortalizarea prin semn plastic a unor momente sau personaje reprezentative din istoria confirmată şi neconfirmată a lumii. Povestea ar fi relaţia dintre Pax Romana şi Pax Christiana, dintre pacea interpretată ca stare non-conflictuală şi cea interioară, adevărată.
Adam şi Eva la porţile raiului, Noe între alegerea corbului şi a porumbelului sau Punerea în mormânt (a Domnului) îşi găsesc locul firesc într-o expoziţie în care imaginea atinge tema propusă fără a o dubla sursele literare care au alimentat iconografia. Pe de o parte, imaginile trăiesc prin ele însele, pe de alta privitorul nu trebuie să apeleze la asociaţii libere pentru a înţelege mesajul. Receptarea unei astfel de expoziţii este similară cu cea a unui cântec liturgic, care nu necesită cunoştinţe muzicale sau cunoaşterea limbii latine pentru a crea emoţie.”

„According to the definition, the mass is a musical composition for chorus and soloists, often with instrumental accompaniment, written on the traditional text of the liturgy. In particular, a composition attributed to Josquin des Prés or Noel Bauldeweyn bears the title Missa Da Pacem, the Latin translation being „sent to bring peace.” The proposed exhibition starts from this latter aspect, ie from the literal meaning of the syntagm, of course, without eluding the cultural and theological connotations.
In other words, the chosen theme is peace, metaphorically speaking, as harmony, desideratum, reconciliation, serenity, forgiveness, peace of mind, cease of conflict, and so on. The artworks reunited under the Missa Da Pacem project, without having been created specifically for it, have as their common denominator the attributes listed above, nothing but hypostases of the divine peace.
The exhibition combines painting, sculpture, ceramics and objects, configured in a installation whose artistic goal transcends the reasons why each piece was created. We are dealing with a curatorial approach of reinterpretation, whose model is in revelation, seen as an act by which we clarify something (un) known or reveal the divinity manifested in seemingly small and common things.
Elena and Marcel Scutaru are different but complementary, and do not expose very often together. But when they do, there are solid artistic reasons. In Missa Da Pacem, the conceptual side of one magistratively meets the other’s interest for installations. Moreover, the two tend to reverse their roles, morphologically speaking, in their attempt to unify their work.
Iconography is of Christian origin, and „simultaneous actions” are placed in a timeless present of the Roman Empire, which has experienced all the relevant, possible and impossible things, incorporating in the process the past too, as understood in the period. Of course, it is not about actual actions, but about recording in a visual sign some representative moments or characters from the confirmed and unconfirmed history of the world. The story is the relationship between Pax Romana and Pax Christiana, between peace interpreted as a non-conflictual state and the inner, true one.
Adam and Eve at the gates of heaven, Noah among the choice of the raven and the pigeon’s, the Entombment (of the Lord) find their natural place in an exhibition where the image touches on the proposed theme without doubling the literary sources that fueled the iconography. On one hand, the images live by themselves, on the other, the viewer does not have to turn to free associations to understand the message. The reception of such an exhibition is similar to a liturgical song that does not require musical knowledge or the knowledge of the Latin language to create emotion.”
