She Goes Everywhere Except School

No gathering of world leaders is complete these days without Greta Thunberg, everyone’s favourite education-dodging autistic teen.

Jim Treacher reviews her latest appearance, and looks forward to grown-up Greta’s future challenges:

Swedish child-priestess and chronic truant Greta Thunberg is at the 2020 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, this week, because that’s where the spotlight is. And she’s scolding all the grown-ups for not doing what she wants when she wants it …

This kid is in for a shock when she grows up. Because she’s going to grow up. The adults who stole her childhood will have died off, but the planet will still be here.

How will she reconcile the resulting cognitive dissonance? Will she acknowledge the truth, or will she find more excuses to believe the lie? That’ll be up to her, once she’s no longer being exploited for political purposes.

While she’s still considered a guru, it might be interesting to find out Greta’s views on issues besides climate change. Perhaps a journalist in Davos could ask, for example, what she thinks about certain Swedish social problems.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump deals with the doomsters:

“To embrace the possibilities of tomorrow, we must reject the perennial prophets of doom and their predictions of the apocalypse. They are the heirs of yesterday’s foolish fortune tellers.

“They want to see us do badly, but we don’t let that happen,” he said.

“They predicted an overpopulation crisis in the 1960s, mass starvation in the 70s, and an end of oil in the 80s.

“They always want to dominate, transform and control every aspect of our lives. We will never let radical socialism destroy our economy and wreck our country or eradicate our liberty.”

Well said.

UPDATE. Don Surber:

Our president said, “America’s newfound prosperity is undeniable, unprecedented and unmatched anywhere in the world. America achieved this stunning turnaround not by making minor changes to a handful of policies, but by adopting a whole new approach centered entirely on the well-being of the American worker.”

That is incredible. A billionaire spoke to fellow billionaires, fellow world leaders, and academics not about the swell digs they were staying at or the lush cuisine they enjoyed.

President Trump talked about actually serving the people who entrusted them with power.

UPDATE II. He’ll be waiting a long time:

When is @GretaThunberg going to acknowledge explicitly that by far the biggest culprit is China, which signed up for Paris but continues to build one coal-burning power station a week? China is responsible for 60% of the increase in global emissions of CO2 since Greta was born. https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/1219639109062361088
